Hakuho toujours imprenable
En effet Hakuho toujours imprenable, car le grand champion mongol a affronté le récemment promu komusubi : Onosho (1-6). Malgré une belle performance lors du tournoi de septembre, Onosho n’a pas gagné depuis qu’il a battu le yokozuna Kisenosato le premier jour de la compétition.
Onosho a chargé Hakuho, mais le yokozuna a continué sa progression vers un 40ème titre lorsqu’il a écarté son adversaire avec une apparente facilité (cf photo).
Lors du dernier combat du jour, Kisenosato (4-3), encore à la recherche de sa première Coupe de l’Empereur, a été battu par le maegashira n°3 Hokutofuji (6-1).
Hokutofuji, tenace, à contenu le grand champion tout autour du dohyo dans une démonstration de force. Enveloppé dans les bras de son adversaire et parcourant le dohyo de long en large, Kisenosato finalement sorti de l’anneau sous la pression.
« J’ai été capable de me battre comme je l’avais imaginé », a déclaré Hokutofuji. « Je fais de mon mieux depuis longtemps, j’ai donc pu enfin obtenir des résultats. »
Sept lutteurs, dont Hokutofuji, ont débuté la journée avec une victoire derrière Hakuho, mais seulement cinq ont amélioré leur statistique à 6-1.
Le combat des anciens
Et l’on reparle d’Aminishiki (6-1) (qui a fait son retour dans la division élite makuuchi à l’âge de 39 ans), il a battu Takekaze, âgé de 38 ans (2-5), proche par l’âge mais aussi par la hiérarchie car ils sont tous deux maegashira n ° 13.
Aminishiki a montré sa domination et sa force quand il a tenu la tête de Takekaze pour le contraindre d’une gifle à aller au sol. C’était leur 32e match entre les deux hommes, et Aminishiki détient maintenant un avantage de 17-15.
Plus haut dans l’ordre hiérarchique, le maegashira n°5 Arawashi (6-1) a été chargé vers le bord du dohyo par le numéro 7 Daishomaru (2-5), mais il a fait preuve de resistance et a forcé son adversaire à sortir. Le n°12 Okinoumi et le quatrième classé Ichinojo figurent également parmi les lutteurs totalisant un ratio de 6-1.
Pendant ce temps, l’ozeki Goeido a subi sa deuxième défaite, en tombant face au maegashira n°3 Shohozan (3-4).

Hakuho remains perfect in Kyushu, with 5 wrestlers a win back
FUKUOKA (Kyodo) — Yokozuna Hakuho held on to the sole lead at the Kyushu Grand Sumo Tournament, where he defeated Onosho on Saturday to improve to 7-0.
The Mongolian grand champion faced newly-promoted komusubi Onosho (1-6), who has been winless since defeating yokozuna Kisenosato on the first day of the 15-day meet at Fukuoka Kokusai Center.
Onosho charged toward Hakuho, but the yokozuna continued his smooth progress toward a record 40th championship when he thrust his opponent down with little effort.
In the day’s final bout, Kisenosato (4-3), who is seeking his first Emperor’s Cup since he won the March’s tourney in his yokozuna debut, was defeated by third-ranked maegashira Hokutofuji (6-1).
Hokutofuji pushed the grand champion around the dohyo in a show of force. Wrapped up in his opponent’s arms and running out of room, Kisenosato stepped backward out of the ring under pressure.
« I was able to fight like I imagined, » Hokutofuji said. « I’ve been doing my best for a long time, so I was able to deliver the results. »
Seven wrestlers, including Hokutofuji, started the day one win behind Hakuho, but only five improved their record to 6-1.
Aminishiki (6-1), who made his comeback in the elite makuuchi division at the age of 39, defeated 38-year-old Takekaze (2-5) in a clash of the two wrestlers at No. 13 maegashira.
Aminishiki showed his dominance and strength when he held onto Takekaze’s head and slapped him down the raised ring to stay in contention for his first championship. It was their 32nd career bout, and Aminishiki now holds a 17-15 advantage.
Farther up the pecking order, No. 5 maegashira Arawashi (6-1) was charged toward the edge of the dohyo by No. 7 Daishomaru (2-5), but held on and forced his opponent out. No. 12 Okinoumi and fourth-ranked Ichinojo were also among the wrestlers with 6-1 records.
Meanwhile, Ozeki Goeido suffered his second loss, falling to No. 3 maegashira Shohozan (3-4).
