Kakuryu confirme sa suprématie
Le yokozuna invaincu Kakuryu se rapproche un peu plus de pouvoir remporter son quatrième championnat en division makuuchi après avoir remporté une 11e victoire consécutive au pris d’un effort considérable ce mercredi.
Dans l’un de ses combats les plus difficiles jusqu’ici, Kakuryu a tenu bon contre l’imposant komusubi Ichinojo pour conserver son score parfait.
Ichinojo, dont la corpulence de 215 kilos l’a aidé à remporter huit victoires jusqu’à présent, a utilisé sa masse pour mettre le yokozuna de 155 kg en défense sur ses appuis arrières alors que les deux lutteurs se sont rapidement immobilisés.
Mais le grand champion solitaire a montré sa force herculéenne, résistant à une tentative d’Ichinojo de le forcer à quitter le dohyo avant de repousser le colossal komusubi.
Après avoir essuyé sa première défaite hier aux mains d’Ichinojo, le maegashira n°6 Kaisei a marqué un point chanceux en bénéficiant d’une victoire par défaut sur Takakeisho (3-8) et rester ainsi à une victoire de Kakuryu.
Le maegashira n°3, l’un des quatre lutteurs à avoir battu le champion de janvier Tochinoshin, s’est retiré du tournoi après s’être blessé au pied droit lors de son combat contre le maegashira n°6 Hokutofuji (5-6) mardi.
Dans d’autres matches, Takayasu a échappé de peu à la défaite face à Tochinoshin (7-4) pour remporter sa neuvième victoire et devenir le seul lutteur en troisième position.
Après avoir conduit le Géorgien au bord de l’anneau avec une charge vigoureuse, Takayasu fut renversé par Tochinoshin alors que le sekiwake sautait pour éviter la défaite.
Mais après une brève réunion, les juges ont décidé que Tochinoshin avait franchit les ballots de paille avant la chute de l’ozeki.
Goeido a obtenu une victoire rapide contre le numéro 4 Shodai. L’ozeki, né à Osaka, a arrêté la charge du maegashira n ° 4 dans sa course et a poussé son adversaire, emportant ainsi sa huitième victoire.
Mitakeumi (5-6) a subi sa quatrième défaite consécutive après avoir été battu par le numéro 5 Chiyomaru (5-6). Le sekiwake avait à sa porté au moins deux fois le maegashira avant qu’un repos de 30 secondes ne donne suffisamment d’énergie à Chiyomaru pour faire glisser Mitakeumi vers la paille.
Chiyotairyu à enchainé sa neuvième défaite contre le n ° 2 Arawashi (2-9).
Nombre de maegashira classés assez bas sont déjà kachi-koshi : le n ° 11 Yutakayama, les natifs d’Osaka n ° 13 Daishomaru et n ° 14 Ikioi, et le bulgare n ° 17 Aoiyama.

Kakuryu drives to 11th straight win at Spring tourney
OSAKA (Kyodo) — Unbeaten yokozuna Kakuryu is primed to win his fourth makuuchi division championship after capturing an 11th straight victory with a massive effort Wednesday at the Spring Grand Sumo Tournament.
In one of his more challenging bouts of the 15-day competition so far, Kakuryu held fast against hulking komusubi Ichinojo to keep his perfect record and push his fellow Mongolian further down the ranks.
Ichinojo, whose 215-kilogram frame has helped him garner eight victories here, used his bulk to put the 155-kg yokozuna on the back foot as the two wrestlers quickly slumped together into a standstill.
But the lone grand champion at Edion Arena Osaka displayed his Herculean strength, resisting an attempt by Ichinojo to force him from the ring before pushing the colossal komusubi out.
After suffering his first defeat yesterday at the hands of Ichinojo, No. 6 Kaisei caught a lucky break and earned a default victory over Takakeisho (3-8) to stay within one win of Kakuryu.
The No. 3 maegashira, one of four wrestlers here to beat January’s champion Tochinoshin, withdrew from the tournament after suffering a right foot injury in his bout with No. 6 Hokutofuji (5-6) on Tuesday.
In other matches, Takayasu escaped defeat at the hands of Tochinoshin (7-4) to earn his ninth victory and become the sole wrestler in third position.
After driving the Georgian to the edge of the ring with a vigorous charge, Takayasu was pulled down by Tochinoshin as the sekiwake leapt out to avoid defeat.
But after a meeting, the judges ruled Tochinoshin to have overstepped the straw bales prior to the ozeki’s fall.
Goeido secured a winning record with a quick win against No. 4 Shodai. The Osaka-born ozeki stopped the charging No. 4 maegashira in his tracks and pushed his hopping opponent out for his eighth win.
Mitakeumi (5-6) suffered his fourth straight loss after being plowed out by No. 5 Chiyomaru (5-6). The sekiwake had the 193-kg maegashira on the ropes twice before a 30-second rest gave Chiyomaru enough energy to slide Mitakeumi over the straw.
Chiyotairyu fell to his ninth loss against No. 2 Arawashi (2-9) when the komusubi lost his footing as his slapping charge was deflected by the Mongolian.
Among the rank-and-file wrestlers here, No. 11 Yutakayama, Osaka natives No. 13 Daishomaru and No. 14 Ikioi, and Bulgarian No. 17 Aoiyama are all still in contention after earning their eighth wins.

beaucoup apprécié la technique de Kyokutaisei
Aoiyama et vraiment de venu un maître du hatakikomi
content de voir Ryuden gagner, même si il a déjà 27 je lui sens un grand potentiel
Takarafuji est très combattif à chaque fois mais enchaînes les mauvais résultats.
Kakuryu m’a vraiment impressionné, Ichinojo ne se prennait plus de Yorikiri comme ça depuis un moment.
Voilà pour mes rikishis favoris, j’ai pas d’avis sur la défaite de Tochinoshin parce que l’angle est assez médiocre.
