Hakuho semoncé par le conseil des Yokozuna
Le yokozuna Hakuho a fait l’objet de remarques par le Conseil de Délibération des Yokozuna lundi, des louanges pour son record avec son 36ème titre mais aussi des critiques visant les incidents du mongol.
Au lendemain de son triomphe au tournoi de printemps, le conseil s’est réunit au Ryogoku Kokugikan de Tokyo où le comportement agressif lutteur était au cœur des discussions. Lors de la huitième journée du championnat, alors que le combat contre Yoshikaze était terminé, le yokozuna a expulsé brutalement le sekiwake du dohyô en le frappant provoquant sa chute et blessant au passage un juge assis en contre-bas. Le shinpan a eu la jambe cassée.
Hakuho a reçu un avertissement verbal pendant le tournoi pour son geste « dameoshi » et a présenté ses excuses pour son action.
« Pour un grand yokozuna, il était disgracieux« , a déclaré Torao Oshima, le président par intérim du conseil, qui a également mentionné la victoire finale du dernier jour lorsque Hakuho a esquivé la charge de son rival yokozuna Harumafuji pour remporter le championnat. Ce manque de sportivité avait indigné une bonne partie des fans présents à Osaka.
« Je pense que sa technique (de Hakuho) était quelque chose de différent pour tromper délibérément son adversaire par une esquive.«
La victoire de Hakuho a mis fin aux espoirs de l’ôzeki vétéran Kisenosato de remporter un premier championnat. Bien qu’il ai terminé sur un score de 13-2, Kisenosato se sera pas désigné en mai comme candidat pour une éventuelle promotion au rang de yokozuna.
« Bien qu’il soit l’ôzeki qui mérite le plus la promotion de yokozuna, ça sera difficile de l’être sans remporter un seul tournoi » a déclaré Oshima.

Yokozuna council gives Hakuho mixed review, passes on Kisenosato
Yokozuna Hakuho received high marks from the Japan Sumo Association’s Yokozuna Deliberation Council on Monday for his record 36th grand tournament championship, although the praise was muted by disappointment over an incident involving the Mongolian.
A day after Hakuho won the 15-day Spring Grand Sumo Tournament, the council met at Tokyo’s Ryogoku Kokugikan, where there was criticism of the yokozuna’s excessive force after the conclusion of his match on March 20. After forcing out sekiwake Yoshikaze in a brutal, hard-hitting match, Hakuho sent his opponent flying from the ring and into a ringside judge, who suffered a broken leg.
Hakuho received a verbal warning during the tournament over his « dameoshi » shove and apologized for his actions.
« For a great yokozuna, it was unsightly, » said Torao Oshima, the acting council chair, who also mentioned Hakuho’s final-day victory, when he evaded the charge of rival yokozuna Harumafuji to seal the championship and received a somewhat lukewarm response from the fans in Osaka.
« I think his (Hakuho’s) technique was something different from deliberately tricking his opponent with a dodge. »
Hakuho’s victory spelled the end of veteran ozeki Kisenosato’s hopes of winning his first championship. Although he won 13 of his 15 bouts, Kisenosato was not nominated as a candidate for promotion to yokozuna in May.
« Although he is now first on the list of ozeki aiming for yokozuna promotion, it will be difficult without his winning a championship, » Oshima said.
