Kakuryu toujours solide
Malgré une douleur persistante dans ses doigts droits, le yokozuna Kakuryu s’est battu au sommet de sa forme ce mercredi pour rester invaincu lors de ce quatrième jour du Tournoi de printemps.
Kakuryu n’a pas perdu de temps lors du dernier de la journée en poussant le maegashira n°2 Arawashi directement hors de l’anneau, infligeant à son compatriote mongol une quatrième défaite consécutive.
Rappelons pour ceux qui prendraient le tournoi en cours qu’il est le seul yokozuna à participer à cette rencontre après le retrait de Hakuho et Kisenosato.
Dans une démonstration massive de force, Mitakeumi (3-1) a battu le colossal Ichinojo donnant sa première défaite au komusubi.
Après un arrêt typique des combats qui impliquent le lourd Mongol, le sekiwake a repoussé Ichinojo hors du dohyo,malgré une différence de poids de 51 kilos !
Takakeisho (2-2) a battu le sekiwake Tochinoshin (2-2), nouvellement promu, dans un match difficile qui a vu le maegashira n°3 survivre de justesse à une poursuite acharnée de la part du champion de janvier.
Takakeisho faillit perdre l’équilibre et fut repoussé par une charge du Géorgien, mais il récupéra maladroitement et utilisa l’élan de Tochinoshin pour le pousser vers l’arrière.
Endo (3-1) a remporté une victoire rapide sur l’ozeki Goeido (2-2) lorsque le natif d’Osaka a glissé et a été facilement repoussé par le maegashira n°1.
Takayasu (2-2), (ayant terminée avec le score de 12-3 au tournoi de janvier) a battu le maegashira Tamawashi (2-2). Les deux lutteurs ont échangé des coups violents avant que l’ozeki ne donne la gifle décisive au mongol.
Le komusubi Chiyotairyu a remporté sa première victoire en battant Takarafuji. Le komosubi a forcé le maegashira n ° 2 à rejoindre le bord de l’anneau avant de l’amener au sol en le tirant par le bras et le cou.
Outre Kakuryu, quatre autres lutteurs sont toujours invaincus: Shohozan n ° 4, Kaisei n ° 6, Ikioi n ° 14 et Aoiyama n ° 17.
Le maegashira n°12 Kotoyuki (0-4), qui a subi des défaites lors de chacune des trois premiers jours, s’est retiré du tournoi après une blessure à la jambe droite.
Toutefois l’année 2018 commence bien pour les lutteurs d’origine Européenne avec, en particulier un retour flamboyant en division Maakuchi pour le Bulgare Aoiyama (4-0), la victoire du Georgien Tochinoshin en janvier, et un bon début de tournoi pour le Géorgien Gagamaru (3-1) en division Juryo.

Kakuryu unbeaten after 4 days of Spring Sumo
OSAKA (Kyodo) — Despite lingering pain in his right fingers, yokozuna Kakuryu fought in top form Wednesday to remain unbeaten on the fourth day of the 15-day Spring Grand Sumo Tournament.
Kakuryu wasted little time in the final match at Edion Arena Osaka, pushing No. 2 maegashira Arawashi straight from the ring, handing his fellow Mongolian a fourth straight defeat.
The grand champion, who has been suffering from pain in his right fingers since January’s New Year tournament, is the only yokozuna competing in the tourney after withdrawals by Hakuho and Kisenosato.
In a massive show of strength, Mitakeumi (3-1) beat the colossal Ichinojo to hand the komusubi his first loss here.
After a standstill typical of the bouts here so far involving the hefty Mongolian, the sekiwake steadily pushed Ichinojo from the ring, making light of a 51-kilogram weight disadvantage.
Takakeisho (2-2) defeated newly-promoted sekiwake Tochinoshin (2-2) in a hard-fought match that saw the No. 3 maegashira narrowly survived a boisterous chase by January’s champion.
Takakeisho nearly lost his balance and was driven to the edge by the charging Georgian, but awkwardly recovered and used Tochinoshin’s momentum to push him down and out from behind.
Endo (3-1) earned a quick victory over ozeki Goeido (2-2) when the Osaka native slipped and was easily thrust down by the top-ranked maegashira.
Takayasu (2-2), who was 12-3 in January’s tourney, beat top-ranked maegashira Tamawashi (2-2). The two wrestlers traded loud jabs before the ozeki gave the decisive downward slap to the Mongolian.
Komusubi Chiyotairyu picked up his first victory by beating winless Takarafuji. The komosubi forced the No. 2 maegashira back to the edge of the ring before pulling Takarafuji down by the arm and neck.
Besides Kakuryu, four other wrestlers are still undefeated: No. 4 Shohozan, No. 6 Kaisei, No. 14 Ikioi and No. 17 Aoiyama.
No. 12 Kotoyuki (0-4), who suffered defeats on each of the first three days, withdrew from the tournament after being sidelined with a right leg injury.
